BANDS

Chris Lamont Trio

The Chris Lamont Trio was made for the Boiler House – literally. They have been performing for the Sunday Jazz Brunch since the day the restaurant opened and are still going strong. Drummer/Leader Chris Lamont and pianist Peter Hill are accompanied by a rotation of three of Canada's finest saxophonists. Chris Gale, Shawn Nykwist and Richard Underhill take turns with the band, each bringing their unique style and often their own original material as well. A typical Sunday afternoon will find the trio exploring many varied styles of music, from early Jazz through to more modern sounds. You may also hear elements of Blues, Latin Jazz, New Orleans, Funk, 60's Shag and even the odd Beatles' tune thrown in. They add a fun but unobtrusive element to your brunch experience. It is not uncommon to find a group of excited kids dancing on the stage beside them as they play.

Kush

Kush is: feel-good, grooving instrumental and electronic nu jazz, down-tempo and soulful house music for the mind, body and soul. Kush sprang from its producer and bassist’s Etric Lyons’ fascination and respect for DJ culture and his deep love for chill and groove music. Lyons was particularly interested in the masterful ability that DJs have to feed off of a live crowd’s energy. By fusing electronica with live instruments, Kush has developed a sound which is entirely unique, compelling and lush – a treat for all the senses. The live project is completely unrehearsed, improvised playing, mixed with electronic elements that take listeners on a magical musical journey. The normal three set Kush experience begins with a chill set, followed by a more up-tempo set and finishes with a house-beat set that usually gets even the most reluctant “dancer’s” feet moving. Kush is a must see live experience!
